    confession

It’s 19 days until surgery now, and just to say it, I’m feeling anxious today. Ok, not anxious as much as scared. I keep thinking about all of the unknown things about surgery, and I’m freaking myself out. Bone saws, sliced nerves, swallowing blood, stitches… Ugh. I need to stop. It all came crashing down on me when I got home from work, and all I could do was crawl into bed and try and sleep for an hour or so. There may have been a few tears. But only a few. Being afraid of surgery is only debilitating, so I need to dwell on the good things. Like being…

    Gettin’ the Goods

Well, the preparations for the big day are officially underway. My mom once gave me excellent advice when I expressed how nervous I was about surgery. She said, “Just plan it like you planned your wedding, and then you’ll be able to relax and trust that everything will go smoothly.” I realize, of course, I have zero control over the actual surgery. But you can bet your bottom dollar, Annie, that I’m thinking through as many details of the recovery as I can possibly imagine. Right now, I’m focusing on the fun part: shopping. 🙂 So far, with the guidance of my fellow jaw-bloggers, my list looks a little something…

The Do’s and Don’ts of Bite Molds

Raise your hand if you’ve ever had the privilege of having bite molds taken. (If you don’t instantly know what this is, you haven’t had this experience. Trust me.) For those of you who’ve ever had this done, I salute you. Having bite molds taken is one of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve ever had. In my entire jaw journey, I’d estimate that I’ve had…oh, I don’t know…probably 40 or so done. In fact, I consider myself a pro. (Which is akin to considering yourself a pro at stubbing your toe repeatedly on the sharpest corner in the house.) For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking…

    No Extra Parts

Black Friday. The day when the masses try to save the economy with their consumerism. I, however, spent zero money, and baked a bunch of Christmas cookies with my mom. After the chaos of the day, when my husband was finally freed off from his job in retail, my parents joined us for an evening showing of Hugo in 3D*. Have you seen this movie? More importantly, have you read the book it’s based on, The Invention of Huge Cabret?? I read the book a few years ago, having discovered it during a library conference. It was brand new when I read it, and had not yet received such accolades as the Caldecott…

    You can’t say I didn’t warn you!

This morning at work, I decided to count how many actual work days I have left between now and surgery. Surgery is 35 days away, and I have *gulp* 16 work days between now and then!! Cue blood pressure rising, breathing getting shallow, pulse racing… I don’t know why this number stresses me out, but it does. Only 16?! Oh man! I’ve got so much to do in these sixteen days, it ain’t even funny. I was just given my first title assignments (which means I found out what books we’re publishing next fall that I’m in charge of the marketing campaigns for), and I’m super excited about them. But surgery…
