Impossible Things and Big Dreams
(Grades 3-8)
In this 45-60 minute program intended for larger audiences (multiple classes or school assemblies), Lindsay introduces kids to her novel, All the Impossible Things, and shares facts from science and history that seem impossible but are true! This interactive session not only presents kids with amazing information but also introduces them to real kids whose big dreams changed the world.
Writing Workshop:
Good Bones: 4 Steps to a Character Arc
(Grades 4-8)
A 30-45 minute writing workshop for smaller groups and single classes that discusses the four main ingredients to building a compelling character: Want, Misbelief, Choice, and Consequence. Through handouts and discussion, students will form the building blocks of a character as a group and do some freewriting to get their creativity flowing.
Meet the Author
(Grades 2-8)
Get to know author Lindsay Lackey in this 45-60 minute program. Lindsay will share her journey from “publishing” her first book in the first grade, all the way through the publication of her novels. Kids will get to see examples of Lindsay’s writing through drafting, multiple revisions, and copyedits, in all of its messy glory! This program will show students just how much work it takes to write and revise, revise, revise, but also how rewarding the process can be.
Moon Shot
(Grades 3-8)
This 45-60 minute program centers around Lindsay’s second novel, Farther Than the Moon. Packed with fascinating space travel information and trivia, this program discusses concepts of disability inclusion, pursuing our dreams, and working hard to achieve our goals. Intended for larger audiences (multiple classes or school assemblies).
Writing Workshop:
Writing Buddies: Taking and Giving Feedback
(Grades 6-8)
This 60-90 minute writing workshop is designed to help serious young writers become a strong writing partner (also called critique partner) – a crucial skill for success in publishing! Students will learn simple rules of etiquette for offering writing critiques to their peers, and will practice the art of giving and receiving constructive criticism. By the end of this workshop, young writers will come to understand just how valuable a good critique partner can be to improving your writing. This program is most effective with students capable of actively writing and sharing during the session. (Group size limited to 20 students.)
