    Site Changing

Since I’ve been passing out a lot of business cards lately (yay, SCBWI connections!), I thought I’d better check in on this rackety old website of mine. Turns out, it’s pretty shabby. And often ignored. And pathetically out of date. SO. Please bear with me! I am in the early stages of revamping this sad little site, but for now it is just going to have to be a wee bit dreary and a lot bit neglected. My apologies! Changes coming soon!

    Into That Darkness Peering

I was invited to write a literary essay in the catalog for “Into That Darkness Peering,” an art exhibit at the Poe Museum in Richmond, VA. The show features the work of contemporary painters, all of whom peer into the darkness of Edgar Allan Poe in their work. The paintings are stunning and haunting, and I am honored to be included in this incredible exhibit alongside such superb artists as Anelecia Hannah, Richard Thomas Scott, Melinda Borysevicz, Brian Busch, Chris Semtner, Charles Philip Brooks, Christine Sajecki, Jude Harzer, Thony Aiuppy, and Adrienne Stein. The exhibit opens April 24, 2014, at the museum’s monthly Unhappy Hour. If you’re in the Richmond…

    Big changes

Recently, I took a giant leap of faith and left my job with Penguin Random House in order to work full-time as a freelance writer and editor. I’ve deeply valued my years of experience in library services and the publishing industry, and know I’ll never stray too far from my professional roots. However, I’m excited to spend some time focusing on my own words and dreams for a while. As a friend of mine said, “Yay for being a free creative, out creating!” That said, I’m hoping to change things up on my site here soon. Please excuse the dust for a little while. I will be posting information about…

    nyc with nana: a middle

Gone – flitted away, Taken the stars from the night and the sun From the day! Gone, and a cloud in my heart. ~Alfred Tennyson It’s hard to believe this week is already over, and Nana is packed up and on her way back to Colorado. We spent months looking forward to this week, and already it’s been snatched from our greedy fingers. But we did our best to make the most of it, I think! Yesterday we ventured out early to a nearby diner for breakfast. We scored a window seat, and sipped our coffee while the workforce of New York passed us by. It was a true NYC…

nyc with nana: this city, this moment

I can’t believe how fast time is flying by! We’ve had a crazy, fun-filled three days; but I’ve also been sick for the last three days, so my chronicling has suffered. Saturday was another day bursting with activity and new memories. In fact, it may have been a little too full of fun! We spent the morning in Central Park, wandering and people watching. When we came to the Carousel, I told Nana that riding the Central Park Carousel was on everybody’s Bucket List, whether they knew it or not. She agreed, and we bought our tickets and climbed aboard. What a Nana I have! She told me, “I do…
