    17 Weeks: Time for a change

    Today marks exactly 17 weeks since my surgery. Since I pretty much don’t even think about the fact that I had surgery anymore, unless I’m feeling the hole in my jaw bone (which is kind of fascinating), I figure it’s time to change things up on my blog a bit. I will continue to update ya’ll on any jaw-related things that happen. (Don’t worry, those before/after pics are still coming…promise!) But I’m going to start transforming this blog into being more, well, blog-like. My goal is to start posting book reviews, musings, writing, etc. Perhaps people who are looking for something other than surgery tales will be able to enjoy…

    Day 1: My new doppelgänger

    Pain Level: 3 Food consumption: All syring-fed liquids. Naked brand juice is tasty and filling, and chicken broth is savory and delicious. Numbness: My entire bottom lip and my chin are all numb. Yesterday the whole bottom half of my face was numb, so I’m thankful that it seems to be getting better already. I’ve felt some tingling and itching in my lower lip/chin.   Didn’t get a ton of rest last night. For some reason, I would wake up every hour. Not usually because of pain, really.     Pre-Op Appointment…and a Christmas Song

    Yesterday afternoon I had my final pre-op appointment with Dr. D’Addario. They took all my vitals, did a brief physical, took X-rays, and made the final set of molds in order to make my surgical splint. He also answered all of my questions about surgery–and let me tell you, I had a bunch of them! Being the slightly-type A personality I am, I’d written down a whole page of questions, single-spaced.
